Process

Working in the field, I build my palette of place: a vocabulary of color, climate, senses, and stories. Outside in the elements, I engage with the environment as my fingers grow numb and my paint freezes or as I blow the hot sand from my paper. Behind every sketch and painting is process: travel to a region, engaging with community, discovering sites of interest, and finding sufficient shelter and protection to work. Returned to the studio, I use my field art for inspiration, at times using photos for additional reference.
